Several major lane closures are scheduled, weather permitting, for I-35 through Round Rock this week. Here is a breakdown of what you need to know about lane and road closures on I-35 looking ahead.

Northbound and southbound I-35 lane and FM 3406 to close for bridge construction


According to a Texas Department of Transportation news release, portions of I-35 will temporarily close the nights of March 23 and 24, weather permitting, as construction crews and cranes finish placing large beams for the FM 3406 bridge and the new north to southbound U-turn bridge.

The north and southbound I-35 frontage roads will be reduced to one lane of traffic at the FM 3406 intersection, and FM 3406 will fully close at I-35 beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 23. At 10 p.m. that night, northbound I-35 will fully close and southbound I-35 traffic will be reduced to one lane between RM 1431 and Hesters Crossing Road. Drivers on northbound I-35 will be rerouted to the I-35 frontage road at exit 254. Roadways will reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 24.

Then at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, the north and southbound I-35 frontage roads will be reduced to one lane at FM 3406 and all FM 3406 lanes will close at I-35. At 10 p.m., southbound lanes on I-35 will fully close and northbound I-35 will be reduced to two lanes between RM 1431 and Hesters Crossing Road. Drivers on southbound I-35 will be rerouted to the newly reconstructed exit ramp for FM 3406 at exit 254. All lanes will reopen Sunday, March 25 at 8 a.m.

I-35 lane closures from Hwy. 79 to SH 45 North


Lane closures will happen nightly from Sunday, March 18 to Thursday, March 22 as construction crews. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on northbound I-35 between RM 620 and Westinghouse Road Tuesday night from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Additionally, ramps will be closed as needed.
