It seems like it is as simple as supply and demand, though statistics show there may be more rentals available soon.

According to the Williamson County Association of Realtors, more than 25 percent of the deeds transferred in May were non-owner-occupied properties.

Those numbers are parallel with national statistics, which may not be a good sign, according to National Association of Realtors President William E. Brown.

“The decline and stagnation in the home ownership rate is a trend that’s pointing in the wrong direction and must be reversed, given the many benefits of home ownership to individuals, communities and the nation’s economy,” Brown said.

Local real estate experts agree there are many advantages to home ownership, but a lack of homes under $250,000 in this area makes it tough to find even rentals at a reasonable price.

Owners of rental properties said the Austin-area market is strong right now. And prices are rising.
