Round Rock ISD announced Thursday that students will attend an inclement weather makeup day on May 29.

According to a letter from the district, the inclement weather day on Tuesday, Jan. 16, combined with a late start earlier in the year due to heavy rains from Hurricane Harvey, placed the district below the minimum number of instructional minutes required by the state.

The district decided to make up for those lost minutes on May 29, which was originally scheduled as a teacher workday.

House Bill 2610, passed by the 84th Texas Legislature, requires school districts to operate for at least 75,600 minutes each school year and to add minutes as necessary to make up for school closures in the event of inclement weather.
