Update April 27, 12:00 p.m.: A TxDOT spokesperson confirmed that Costco submitted a lane closure request lasting from Monday, April 30 to Friday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Original post: A lane closure on FM 685 is expected to continue into next week as Costco and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) construction crews work on a turning lane.

The lane portion closed on FM 685 stretches from Benning Drive and ends just before the turning lane for Kelly Lane.

Costco officials expect the lane to be closed Friday, Monday and possibly Tuesday and Wednesday, depending on construction progress. During those days, the lane will remain closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

No further lane closures are planned until road striping begins. Pflugerville officials have not yet been informed when that  may occur.

A recent traffic impact study conducted by the city and TxDOT found Costco will end up paying the City of Pflugerville more than $300,000 for road improvements. Those costs include improvements to Kelly Lane, FM 685 and signal work.

The roadwork currently underway is occurring simultaneous to continued construction of the upcoming Costco store. Work on the building has recently gone vertical, as light masonwork and upright metal structures can be seen from the road.

The Austin area’s fourth Costco store is still on schedule to open in July. Preliminary site plans show the store will include a 150,170-square-foot warehouse, a 3,912-square-foot liquor store, a 630-square-foot optical exam area and 750 parking spaces. The development will also feature a gas station.
