Here are two key takeaways from the Round Rock City Council meeting May 10:

Land purchased for Station No. 3 relocation

The City Council unanimously approved the purchase of 2 acres of land at the La Frontera shopping center for the relocation of Round Rock Fire Station 3.

The station will be relocated from its current location on Rawhide Drive to the new property at 201 Sundance Parkway, Round Rock.

“It’s a great location and we are excited about the potential,” Fire Chief Robert Isbell said Thursday night.

The relocation will be funded by remaining 2013 bond funds.

Downtown smart parking project moves forward

The council also unanimously approved a purchase order for a smart parking system to be installed in the City Hall parking garage and along Main Street.

The garage system will be similar to the system already in place at the Allen R. Baca Center. The system is designed to help downtown visitors easily find available parking in the garages.

Surface sensors will be installed in 19 spots along Main Street in front of Louisiana Longhorn Café. The sensors will enable the city to monitor parking spot usage downtown.
