The city of Round Rock officially called for a special election to take place on Dec. 16 to fill a vacancy left by Kris Whitfield. Whitfield announced in September she would be stepping down from her position to move full time to her home in Wyoming.

Whitfield was first appointed to council in 2007. Her final meeting took place Sept. 28.

The special election's filing period will begin Oct. 27 and run until Nov. 6. Hollis Bone, a previous candidate for Place 1 who lost to Council Member Tammy Young, has announced he will be running for the position.

The election will have two polling locations, the Jester Annex and the Baca Center.
