Here are 6 things you should know this week in Round Rock, Pflugerville and Hutto:

1. Hutto ISD is in the midst of confirming its new superintendent after a prolonged search process. Celina Estrada Thomas was announced in late September as the lone finalist. Estrada Thomas has been serving as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for Fredricksburg ISD since 2015. The district will hold a meet and greet with her from 5:45-6:45 p.m. in the Hutto ISD Board Room on Monday.

2. Early voting starts Monday throughout Williamson and Travis counties. The early voting period extends until Friday, Nov. 3. Here is a list of all of the polling locations and their hours of operations in both counties. The November ballot will feature a $185 million bond in Travis County, seven proposed constitutional amendments to the Texas Constitution, six candidates running for Pflugerville City Council and an economic funding change on the Hutto Economic Development Corporation. Learn more about what is on the ballot here.

3. Round Rock City Council will likely call a special election for a vacancy on the dais left by long serving former council member Kris Whitfield. Whitfield announced she would be resigning in mid-September. Whitfield moved to Wyoming and could therefore not serve on council any longer. The election will be held Dec. 16 for Place 6.

4. Last week, Hutto Police Chief Byron Frankland announced Hutto Police is investigating the former board of the Hutto Economic Development Corporation for illegal allocation of public funds. City Council voted last Thursday to conduct a subsequent investigation into the same charge. Council members spoke of alleged questionable expenditure of taxpayer money by members of the former EDC board including travel expenses, meals and tickets to an NFL game.

5. Pflugerville City Council will conduct interviews to appoint two citizen members to the Finance and Budget Committee for one term ending Dec. 31, 2017 and another ending Dec. 31, 2018 at its Tuesday night city council meeting. Council will likely consider the actual appointments at a special city council meeting Dec. 5.

6. On Friday, the bridge at I-35 and FM 3406 in Round Rock will close for widening and reconstruction for approximately 10 months, the duration of Texas Department of Transportation construction. TxDOT is encouraging drivers going westbound to detour to the newly constructed FM 3406 U-turn bridge to cross I-35. Eastbound drivers are encouraged to detour to the southbound frontage road and use the U-turn at U.S. 79. Construction will also require closures of various I-35 lanes for the setting of beams concrete pours.
