A proposal to revamp the Unified Development Code in Hutto has been tabled for a future meeting after City Manager Odis Jones asked the City Council to hold off on a vote until more input is gathered.

The council was scheduled to hear the first reading of an ordinance amending the code, along with a reading to repeal the SmartCode in its entirety while incorporating features of the SmartCode into the Unified Development Code.

After a presentation by Helen Ramirez, Hutto's executive director of Business & Development Services, Jones asked the council to table the vote for more information.

Council Member Nate Killough said he would like to discuss the changes with developers and the four days to review the documents haven’t been enough time.

“I would like to dig a whole lot deeper,” Killough said.

Code changes outlined in Ramirez’s presentation included updates to sign and landscape regulations, parking, banners and lot sizes, allowing for different types of housing to be built on different lot sizes.

The changes, which will now be discussed with no timeline set, were approved by the Hutto Historic Preservation Commission and the planning and zoning commission earlier in July.

“You guys have done a great job,” Jones told Ramirez when asking the City Council to table the proposals.
