A new week brings a slew of meetings and important things to know. Here are X things to know to be an informed citizen in the Round Rock, Pflugerville and Hutto area:

1. Pflugerville ISD has named a new superintendent, which coincidentally means Hutto ISD will lose theirs, should Doug Killian be approved. State law mandates that PfISD must wait 21 days after announcing Killian as the superintendent candidate before officially offering him a contract. This period can be used for public input. Killian must wait until the end of this period, and receive an approval, before submitting his resignation within HISD. Pflugerville ISD will hold their next regular meeting on April 20.

2. The city of Hutto announced a deal to build a new industrial 2.5 million-square-foot development. The Hutto Innovation Business Park will start with an 800,000 square-foot space in six buildings.

3. Round Rock ISD is in the middle of weighing the pros and cons of adopting a multimillion dollar bond. The bond is separated into three propositions and together, would cost $572.09 million for a number of projects, including a new high school on Pearson Ranch Road. Lines have been drawn between those supporting the bond and those opposing it, and the issue will come to a head on election day. Early voting begins April 24; election day is May 6.

4. Popular radio station KOKE-FM announced it would launch a new music festival in Hutto in August. The music festival features country performers, including Robert Earl Keen as the headliner. The festival will be held at the Gin at the Co-Op with tickets going on sale for as little as $25.

5. The Texas Legislature is more than halfway through its 85th session, and lawmakers are tackling some tough issues. On Monday, a federal judge ruled that Texas intentionally discriminated when implementing a voter identification policy in 2011. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had already ruled Texas' voter ID law was discriminatory in effect. At the same time, the House Elections Committee met on a number of bills that addressed the issue.
