Randi Field, co-owner of Pflugerville Massage Associates, said she received her first massage in college years ago when she was pregnant with her first son. She said that prenatal massage was so enjoyable and relaxing that she wanted to share the experience with others.

Randi attended massage school after graduating from college. She gained professional experience at various spas, and in 2011 she and her husband, Holt, opened Pflugerville Massage Associates.

Together with one employee, they offer different kinds of massages ranging from traditional Swedish and sports massages to prenatal and hot-stone massages.

Holt said massages are for relaxation as well as therapeutic reasons.

“It can be both, depending on what the client is seeking,” he said. “I distinguish between a massage and physical therapy. Physical therapy is trying to cure your ailments, but it doesn’t necessarily consider the whole person. With a massage we always consider your nervous system as well as your muscular system.”

The Fields say massages often have a positive effect on a stressed body or mind.

“We are into making people feel better,” Randi said. “Whether it’s sports-related, work-related, family-related or stress-related.”

Randi said the business wants to offer the luxury feel of a spa with a focus only on massages. And they want to offer the service in an affordable way to everyone, the owners said.

The Fields said the business is family-oriented, and they offer their services to parents, grandparents, expecting mothers and even children. Many of their customers are weekend athletes, but many business people also come in to relax their minds and their muscles, they said.

Since opening, Pflugerville Massage Associates has grown from a 700-square-foot office with one massage room and one table into a 950-square-foot space with three treatment rooms, Holt said.

“We want to stay in the downtown area,” Randi said. “I love this location.”

Being from Pflugerville, Randi is very fond of the town, she said. Holt, a Round Rock native, said the business is involved in the Pflugerville Downtown Association and likes to give back to the community through fundraisers, volunteer work and offering specials such as chair massages at schools during teacher appreciation week.

“I got my first massage, and it changed my life,” Randi said. “And I want to offer that to other women and to the community.”
