The city of Pflugerville reported May 6 that crews were able to reopen a lane of traffic on southbound FM 685 as part of a project at the intersection at Pecan Street in Pflugerville.

The right turn lane on southbound FM 685 remains closed but drivers may use the through lane and left turn lane.

Crews also closed a lane of traffic in each direction on Pecan between west of Willow Street and FM 685/Dessau Road, according to the city.

Original story

Major traffic pattern changes will start May 5 in Pflugerville at the intersection of Pecan Street and FM 685/Dessau Road.

This is part of the construction project to add a displaced left turn to the intersection. A displaced left turn allows vehicles to make unopposed left turns at an intersection by crossing traffic over to the other side of the road prior to the intersection using an exclusive lane, according to the city of Pflugerville's website.

Westbound traffic

Westbound traffic will be shifted to the left with the right lane closed. The left lane will be used for heading straight only, and left turns continue to be prohibited, according to an update by Public Information Officer Maggie Holman.

A detour for those needing to turn left onto southbound Dessau will be available using Immanuel Road, located east of Dessau. The middle lane will be used to turn right onto northbound FM 685.

Eastbound traffic

For eastbound traffic, the right lane will be closed and traffic turning right onto southbound Dessau will be diverted to the left lane, Holman said.

Northbound traffic

The left turn lane will be closed with the middle lane used to turn left onto westbound Pecan. The right lane will be used to continue straight on FM 685 and to turn right onto eastbound Pecan.

Southbound traffic

Holman said southbound traffic will see the biggest change in traffic pattern with all three regular lanes closed. Traffic will be shifted to the left into two lanes, one for turning right and continuing straight and the other for left turns.
