What we reported

St. David’s HealthCare opened a new surgical hospital Oct. 19 on an 8.5-acre campus at 1201 W. Louis Henna Blvd., Austin. The facility expanded operations at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center by providing doctors with more space to perform elective surgeries scheduled in advance.

The latest

The hospital has handled 250 surgical cases since opening, according to St. David’s. The facility is also pioneering a new procedure that uses robotic surgery machinery to treat women with fibroids. St. David’s said the minimally invasive technique allows women receiving the surgery to avoid hysterectomies.

What’s next

St. David’s Surgical Hospital began serving patients this fall and opened with room to grow. In 2017, the hospital will begin offering a new MRI-guided procedure to treat prostate cancer. St. David’s expects to spend more than $275 million through 2018 on new Central Texas health care infrastructure.
