The Williamson County Commissioners Court on Sept. 27 selected Joe Bland Construction LP to proceed with the construction of the CR 258 extension connecting US 183 to Sunset Ridge Drive. The project will construct a new two-lane roadway from US 183 to Sunset Ridge Drive and will include a connection to Questa Trail.

“Constructing new roadways that provide additional ways to get around the county is increasingly important as more people move into the county,” Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long said.

The commissioners and County Judge Bill Gravell received seven bids and decided on Joe Bland Construction LP for the lowest bid, quality of work on previous projects, and an existing working relationship with the county and its representatives. The construction company’s bid of about $5 million was also $400,000 lower than the engineer’s estimate provided by American Structurepoint.

Drivers exiting to CR 258 from US 183 North use a path through CR 260 up to Sunset Ridge Drive. The extension that will give drivers a straight access to CR 258, keep residents safe, improve connectivity and accommodate expected future traffic volumes. The Questra Trail extension will facilitate safe neighborhood access and connectivity of the Rancho Santa Fe residents and emergency services.

“The extension of County Road 258 is especially significant given Liberty Hill ISD’s plans to construct a new middle school and high school just to the south of the new road extension,” Long said.

The project is funded by a 2019 voter-approved $412 million road bond and is expected to be complete in summer 2023.

The Texas Department of Transportation is planning a concurrent project that will add turn lanes along US 183 onto CR 258.
