Capital Metro is teaming up with Whole Foods Market for a fifth year to collect 50,000 meals—10,000 more than last year's goal—during its annual Stuff the Bus food drive for the Central Texas Food Bank.

The city’s transit agency aims to have enough nonperishable food items donated Dec. 9-11 to fill two Capital Metro buses, which will be stationed outside the downtown Austin and Domain Whole Foods stores.

“We love partnering with Capital Metro annually to support the Central Texas Food Bank,” said Amara Lopez, marketing and community relations for Whole Foods Market Southwest Region, in a news release. “We’re excited to celebrate the fifth year of this community event and know that our generous customer base will help us reach our goal.”

Guests may bring donated items from home, purchase a $5 prepackaged bag at Whole Foods to donate or make a cash donation at the register.

Items that are most needed include peanut butter, canned chicken breast or tuna, canned low-sodium vegetables, canned fruit, dry pinto beans, brown rice, nonfat dry milk powder and 100 percent whole grain cereal. Donated items should be in unopened packaging, and products in glass containers are not accepted.

Food donations are being accepted 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Dec. 9-11 at five Austin-area Whole Foods stores:

  • Arbor Trails, 4301 W. William Cannon Drive, Austin

  • Bee Cave, 12601 Hill Country Blvd., Bee Cave

  • Domain, 11920 Domain Drive, Austin

  • Downtown Austin, 525 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin

  • Gateway, 9607 Research Blvd., Austin

Donations are also accepted Dec. 5-9 from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Capital Metro Transit Store, 209 W. Ninth St., Austin.
