Jimmy FlanniganAustin City Council Member Jimmy Flannigan will host an open house Friday celebrating the reopening of a Northwest Austin field office to serve District 6 residents.

The field office is located at 10401 Anderson Mill Road, Ste. 101, Austin. It was originally opened by former Council Member Don Zimmerman, whom Flannigan defeated in November to take the City Council's District 6 seat, but closed following the election.

“As the largest and most geographically distant council district, District 6 faces some of the greatest challenges for civic participation,” Flannigan said Monday in a news release. “I’m excited to reopen the [Northwest] Austin field office, the only council district field office in the city, as a place for constituents to engage with the city and as a community resource for all of District 6.”

Friday's open house will take place from 5-7 p.m.

The event will include an excerpt from an art exhibit featuring work by District 6 resident Jennifer Idol. The exhibit, titled "An American Immersion," features underwater photography, paintings and graphic design work. Idol, an international underwater diver and diving instructor, is the first woman to perform dives in all 50 U.S. states, according to the release from Flannigan's office.

Open house attendees are also invited to join an after-party at Arthouse Austin, located west of the field office at 11505 Anderson Mill Road, Austin.

On April 24, staff members from Flannigan's office will announce volunteer opportunities and operating hours at the field office when staff will be available to meet with District 6 constituents, according to Monday's release.
