Here's a look at some of the recent news affecting Northwest Austin.

1. Election Day is Tuesday.

The polls are open 7 a.m.-7 p.m., and voters in both Travis and Williamson counties may vote at any polling location in their respective counties. For a list of polling locations, click here.

Northwest Austinites can vote in several races, including seats on City Council and the Austin and Round Rock ISD boards of trustees. For a full list of what is on the ballot for Northwest Austin voters, click here.

2. See which roads will have closures in the area through Friday.

The Texas Department of Transportation announced several Austin-area road closures for Nov. 5-11, including on US 183 near MoPac as well as several along MoPac related to the express lane construction project. See the full list here.

3. You have another chance Thursday to weigh in on a bicycle and pedestrian study of US 183.

The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is studying how to include more of these connections throughout the US 183 corridor between MoPac and Cypress Creek in Cedar Park.

This meeting builds off two meetings CAMPO hosted in October, and residents will be able to learn more about existing corridor conditions, recommended bicycle routes and lanes, and trails. The meeting is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Spicewood Springs branch library, 8637 Spicewood Springs Road, Austin. Visit www.campotexas.org for more information.

4. A new business accelerator will open next year.

Concordia University Texas and Tech Ranch Austin announced plans last week to open a new business accelerator on the campus of the Northwest Austin university located off RM 620.

The program is called the Incubator for Innovation and Impact, and it is scheduled to open in spring 2017. It will offer a variety of resources to local entrepreneurs, including a co-working space, classes, audio and video production, and print and mailing services.

5. Council voted last week to approve the sterilization of animals that have been impounded.

Austin City Council approved Thursday a resolution allowing animals to be spayed or neutered upon their first impoundment at the Austin Animal Center.

Council voted to amend the city code chapter that pertains to sterilization of animals at the shelter, which stated that city officials have authority to spay or neuter an animal after it has been impounded for a second time.
