CAMPO begins study of US 183 corridor in NW AustinResidents are invited to attend two public meetings this week to learn more about a new study underway on US 183 in Northwest Austin.

On Tuesday, the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will host an educational meeting about the 183 corridor study between MoPac and RM 620 that will help identify the needs of pedestrians and bicyclists in Central Texas.

The event is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Balcones Country Club, 8600 Balcones Club Drive, Austin.

On Thursday, CAMPO will host another meeting with a more formal presentation that will include some of the feedback gathered Tuesday. That meeting is also at the Balcones Country Club from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Kelly Porter, CAMPO’s senior multimodal planner, said the first meeting will be used to assess existing conditions along US 183 and the surrounding area and understand the needs for active transportation. The second meeting will focus on conceptual planning.

CAMPO will host another meeting in November and will meet with stakeholders throughout the process.

The study results will be part of CAMPO’s 2045 Regional Active Transportation Plan. Active transportation refers to transportation that uses one’s own body to get from place to place, such as walking and biking.
