1. Austin Boat & Travel Trailer Show


The event includes contests and a children’s activity area for attendees. Parents may drop off their children for a small fee while they shop. For boating enthusiasts, the event showcases deals on wakeboard boats, cruisers, pontoons and fishing boats. There are also ground vehicles, including fifth wheels, truck campers and toy haulers.

2. Mallory Page show


Wally Workman Gallery presents a solo show with New Orleans painter Mallory Page, who works with color, composition and technique to deliver a visual interpretation of her interests in the push and pull of cognitive dissonance.

3. Free trees from TreeFolks

The nonprofit TreeFolks will give away 1,000 fruit, shade and ornamental trees Saturday as part of its NeighborWoods program. Trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited to one per person. According to TreeFolks, planting trees reduces residential energy bills, provides shade and beautifies neighborhoods.

4. 2017 3M Half Marathon

The 13.1-mile race is a downhill, point-to-point course that begins in North Austin and ends in front of the Capitol building. 3M aims to contribute $50,000 to support nonprofit Girlstart’s educational programs in conjunction with the race. A packet pickup and expo takes place from 1-7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Saturday at the Austin Convention Center, 500 E. Cesar Chavez St., Austin.

5. SXSW seeks volunteers 

South by Southwest Conferences and Festivals and SXSWedu are looking for volunteers to work in and around the Austin Convention Center or other SXSW venues when the conference takes place in March. Volunteers need to work a minimum of 24 hours to earn SXSW wristbands and badges. Applications are available online.

Crew shift selections take place from 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the first-floor Ballroom ABC at the Austin Convention Center, 500 E. Cesar Chavez St. Another shift selection is scheduled from 3-5 p.m. on Feb. 11.

SXSWedu runs from March 6-9; SXSW Gaming runs from March 16-18; and SXSW Conferences and Festivals runs from March 10-19.
