Fort Bend County Judge KP George posted a Facebook message on Jan. 20 urging his former colleagues on the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees to fill his Position 5 seat.

"It has recently come to my attention that Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees Position 5, the seat I served on to represent the community, may remain vacant for months on end—diluting the strength of community input and representation," he wrote. "I encourage the Board to act accordingly in (1) filling my former seat instead of leaving a vacancy for months and (2) allowing the voters full say in May to elect their representative to this seat."

He also referenced a similar situation when Board of Trustee David Rosenthal was elected to the board to serve out a one-year unexpired term for Position 7, following the resignation of the previous member.

George was elected county judge on the Nov. 6 election. Prior to that, he had served as FBISD Position 5 board trustee for five years, a position that is up for re-election in 2020.

Though a group photo of the trustees on the board's website includes George, his profile was removed as of last week.

The letter comes as FBISD faces parent and community opposition for recent decisions, including recommendations for rezoning high schools on the southeast side of the county. On Jan. 18, the school district said it was not bringing forward a recommendation to the board for rezoning, but would focus on fast-tracking the High School 12 construction.
