Whitney Roberts and her husband, Chris Rauschuber, love the Austin craft beer scene, but most brewpubs in the city are concentrated in Central and South Austin, Roberts said.

“While we really love living in North Austin, there are few choices when it comes to locally owned establishments dedicated to serving local craft beer and great food,” she said.

Roberts said she and Rauschuber are aiming to bring the craft beer experience to North Austin in 2016 with The Brewtorium. She said the couple is looking to set up shop somewhere near Duval, Jollyville or north Burnet roads.

The Brewtorium will serve lunch and dinner and include a draft selection of up to 12 beers, Roberts said.

“Chris’ German heritage has influenced the beer styles he enjoys brewing most, so two of our core beer styles are German lagers, which you don’t see too many other brewpubs offering,” Roberts said.

The food menu will include some German flair as well, and each entrée will pair with one of the house beers, she added.

The beer list will include five constant selections—Das Daydrinker, a Munich helles lager; Electric Lederhosen, a Vienna-style lager; Lightning Wizard, a Belgian witbier; Sol Surfer Pale Ale and Propeller Head IPA. A rotating selection of three to seven seasonal, barrel-aged and experimental brews will also be on the menu, she said. The brewpub will also offer guest wines, ciders and meads.

To top off the German influence, The Brewtorium will feature a family- and dog-friendly outdoor beer garden with lawn games and room to sit and spend an afternoon, Roberts said.

“One of our goals at The Brewtorium is to build a community around the brewpub, so we won’t just be a place to come eat and drink,” she said.

Roberts said she and Rauschuber plan to host special events at the brewpub, such as yoga, movie nights, beer pairing dinners and learn-to-brew classes.

Roberts said she hopes The Brewtorium, in combination with local craft beer production facilities, will help make North Austin a craft beer destination.

“Since making our plans public a few weeks ago, we’ve received so much encouragement from people in the area who are eager to see our concept come to life,” she said. “It proves that North Austin is the right place for The Brewtorium.”
