Transportation Updates—Central Austin, April 2015


1. Pemberton Heights neighborhood water line replacement


Austin Water Utility is replacing 18,500 linear feet of deteriorated water line and 6,900 linear feet of wastewater lines in the Pemberton Heights neighborhood. These improvements will help assure safe and reliable drinking water for the West Austin neighborhood as well as water for fire protection.

Timeline: August 2013-May 2015
Cost: $9.6 million
Funding sources: Renew Austin (Austin Water Utility program)

2. Citywide sidewalk improvements


Work began in April on various Travis Heights neighborhood sidewalks, including improvements along East Annie Street, Woodland Avenue, Travis Heights Boulevard and Fairmount Avenue. Construction will take up no more than 300 linear feet of any single roadway at a time and take six months to complete all improvements. Construction in the vicinity of a single home or business will last between a few days to less than two weeks, according to the city. Additional sidewalk improvements start in the next two months along North Lamar Boulevard and West Alpine Road. This summer, improvements will also take place on Leon Street.

3. Cesar Chavez Street turn lane


The city has added a second left-turn lane from westbound Cesar Chavez Street to southbound Congress Avenue to help address peak-period congestion at the intersection. Temporary lane closures occurred March 31 to install temporary markings at the intersection, but no other traffic impacts are anticipated.
