2. Third and Bowie streets

Construction started March 11 to allow Austin Energy to extend chilled water lines along the southeast side of Third Street. The project will prevent some motorists from crossing the Bowie Street intersection. Motorists traveling east on Third Street from North Lamar Boulevard will need to make a U-turn when they reach Bowie, according to the city, yet there are no traffic restrictions traveling east on Third Street after Bowie Street. All traffic traveling west on Third must turn right upon approaching Bowie. A portion of Bowie has been converted to one-way northbound as part of the construction process; however, the entrance to the Spring Condominium parking garage will not be affected, according to Austin Energy. Contractors will typically work between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The project was approved in September by Austin City Council to allow chilled water lines to reach the new Central Library and Seaholm redevelopment projects.
