The North Cypress Medical Center hospital launched two new programs earlier this year through its Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department. The new programs—concussion management and vestibular rehabilitation—each specialize in certain aspects of the recovery process.

The new programs have become components of NCMC's Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine departments. The increased focus and awareness about concussions in athletics has led to a greater need for programs designed to address these issues before they get worse, officials said.

The Concussion Management Program provides treatment related to concussions and their symptoms, which can include headache, concentration problems, impaired balance, memory loss, sleep disturbances and mood swings.

The Vestibular Rehabilitation Program focuses on reducing the symptoms of dizziness or balance problems associated with the inner ear. The exercise-based program is specifically designed for people with dizziness, vertigo and migraines. In many cases, the exercises will reduce symptoms or help them disappear entirely, officials said.
