In June, Lake Travis ISD officials contracted with Lubbock-based Infection Controls Inc. to start a pilot program for state-of-the-art sanitation and disinfection services at each campus.

Johnny Hill, LTISD assistant superintendent for business, financial and auxiliary services, approved the $44,000 contract as a way to protect the school, students and staff prior to any Ebola virus scare, said Marco Alvarado, director of communications for the district.

Through the GermBlast program, each school was sanitized and disinfected in August and will be again during the upcoming Thanksgiving break and during spring break in 2015.

The process includes the sanitation and disinfection of common touch points and surfaces at each school, such as water fountains and faucets, cafeteria and library tables, classroom desks, computer stations, science lab tables, door handles, stairway rails, athletic lockers and sporting equipment.
