Room includes 3-D printer, workbenches and an energy corner
Abercorn International School opened its new science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, facility with the start of the new school year.
The STEM room includes an energy corner—which shows students the amount of the school's energy provided by solar panels—and a 3-D printer. There are also tools for carpentry and two benches for woodworking, science equipment for experiments, an interactive smart board and a selection of books.
"Our STEM room provides a specialized resource area not often found at the elementary school level with dedicated materials, equipment and technology to support learning in these areas," AIS Headmistress Augusta "Dusty" Fretwell said in a news release. "By creating this space we also feel we are raising the profile of these areas of the curriculum in our school, whilst giving increased value to the role of STEM in an elementary school setting."
