The Texas Department of Transportation hosted an open house Feb. 11 at Georgetown High School to gather community input as part of the I-35 Williamson County Feasibility Study.

Residents from throughout the county attended the event and wereasked to submit feedback on ways to improve mobility on I-35 between just south of FM 1431 and just north of SH 130.

Project team members and TxDOT employees were available to answer questions.

Its a listening session, TxDOT spokeswoman Kelli Reyna said. We try to do open houses like this because we dont like surprises, and the public doesnt like surprises.

Participants were invited to fill out surveys and submit feedback directly onto maps of the 7mile segment of the highway.

Concepts identified through the feasibility study, which began in November 2013, will be incorporated into the I-35 Capital Area Implementation Plan, according to TxDOT documents. The plan will guide development of projects along the I-35 corridor throughout Williamson, Travis and Hays counties and is expected to be complete by mid-2015.

Its similar to the Travis County plan, Reyna said. As funding becomes available well have projects ready to go.

Georgetown residentLeo Wood said he applied to serve on the Georgetown Transportation Advisory Board and attended the open house to learn about plans for I-35.

"If I'm going to serve and be useful, I wanted to be as up-to-speed as I could on transportation issues," he said. "As a concerned citizen, I'd like to see traffic improvements to the city overall."

A second open house will be heldfrom 58 p.m.Feb. 12 at the Allen R. Baca Senior Center, 301 W. Bagdad Ave.in Round Rock.

A virtual open house will also be available beginning Feb. 13 at www.mobility35.org.
