Maureen McCoy, the executive director of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, plans to retire from her position, effective Feb. 11.

McCoy has been with CAMPO, which coordinates regional transportation planning for Central Texas, for 13 years. Previously she worked for the Texas Department of Transportation in several positions, including in the public transportation and federal legislation divisions. She started her transportation career working for the city of San Angelo.

She said she does not have any plans yet after her retirement but will take the next couple of months considering her next steps. McCoy also has a daughter who is a junior in high school and is looking at colleges.

"It's time somebody else had the fun," she said. " That's what the glory is about retiring: You never know where the road takes you."

The CAMPO policy board, chaired by Hays County Commissioner Will Conley, will discuss at its Feb. 10 meeting the decision to appoint Joseph Cantalupo—from consulting firm K Friese & Associates Inc.—as interim director, according to CAMPO board documents.

The board is scheduled to vote on a $156,000 agreement with KFA for executive support services for up to seven months until a permanent executive director is hired. Cantalupo previously served as the CAMPO executive director, according to the board documents.

Conley was elected to a second term as policy board chairman in January.
