Jurors in Williamson County will receive an increase in their reimbursement for second day service following the expiration of a section of the Texas Government Code on Sept. 1.

County commissioners discussed and acknowledged increasing jury pay to $40 for the second day a person is in attendance at court, as per the Texas Government Code, at their Sept. 3 meeting.

Jurors are still entitled to not less than $6 for the first day or fraction of a day they are in attendance in court, according to information from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts office.

Previously, members of a jury were only paid $30 for their second day of service, District Clerk Lisa David said.

The increase is not expected to have a major impact on the county's 2013-14 fiscal year budget, she said.

"The state reimburses the county $34 [per juror] for us," David said. "We're out just $6 for [each of the] jurors It puts our money back in, and that does help with budget."
