Toy store adds inventory, upgrades website

Having been open a little more than two years, Space Cadets Collection Collection in Oak Ridge North has become an established, popular, and distinctive destination for toy and comic book collectors in a sea of big box chain stores.

The store has done so well, in fact, owner Jen King said Space Cadets' inventory has been vastly expanded, including newly licensed products customers previously had to go elsewhere to find. Recently acquired licenses include Mattel, Nintendo and Neca, which represents many video game characters.

King said Space Cadets also carries more Lego products, while hot items this season have been anything Dr. Who or Walking Dead, anything Nintendo related and lots of Pokemon.

One of the most significant upgrades, she said, has come with the improvement of Space Cadet's website.

"I just hired a marketing director, and she changed the website completely," King said. "It's really informational. She changed our newsletter. It's helped a lot."

The website now features Space Cadets' daily and upcoming events, such as Pokemon game days, board game nights, crochet, archery and woodcarving classes. Child drop-off camps, which feature a different theme each day, have also become popular, King said.
