Starting Oct.1, the City of Leander will stagger billing cycles for all utility customers. Previously, bills were sent on the first day of each month and due on the 15th of each month.

Finance Director Robert Powers said the change will help staff handle all of the city's 10,000 utility accounts in four separate cycles instead of one.

In most instances, the payment due date is 28 days from the bill date, which is a longer time period to pay without penalty, according to the city. The city will no longer mail late notice reminders, and customers who do not pay their bill by the due date are subject to a late fee—applied at 5 p.m. the day after the due date—and service termination.
