Nine bus routes are to be rerouted the afternoon of July 17 as President Barack Obama makes a fundraising visit to downtown Austin, which also will cause several road closures.

"There will be a rectangle closed off to metro traffic," Capital Metro Communications Manager Francine Pares said.

The president's campaign website indicates the fundraising event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Austin Music Hall, 208 Nueces St.

Buses will be rerouted from the area bounded by Lamar Boulevard, Fifth Street, Congress Avenue and Riverside Drive.

The detours on affected routes listed below will occur from 1–8 p.m.:

3 Burnet/Manchaca (southbound)

110 South Central Flyer (southbound)

171 Oak Hill Flyer (northbound and southbound)

935 Tech Ridge Express (northbound)

970 Lantana Express

982 Pavilion Express (northbound and southbound)

983 N. U.S. 183 Express (northbound and southbound)

985 Leander/Lakeline Direct (northbound)

987 Leander/NW Express (northbound)

Pares said riders may visit the Capital Metro home page for updated service alerts, which will also be posted on the agency's Facebook and Twitter pages. Pares said she encourages riders to check these resources before riding one of the affected routes or contacting the agency's information hotline 474-1200.

"We have a variety of ways for people to find out," she said.

The Austin Police Department and the Secret Service will be coordinating road closures. A spokesperson from the Austin field office of the Secret Service said the agency could not comment on which roads will be closed. APD routed all media questions regarding road closures to the Secret Service.
