New Braunfels Utilities continues its work on the Castell Avenue 24-inch water line major infrastructure improvement project. Located in the downtown New Braunfels area, the project is designed to increase water transmission capacity and reliability by replacing severely aged infrastructure, according to NBU.

The infrastructure improvements are anticipated to reduce water main breaks, leading to fewer maintenance events and lower long-term repair costs. The project is expected to be completed in May, permitting ideal weather conditions, according to NBU.

Several intersections on Castell Avenue will require 24-hour closures for D. Guerra Construction to install water line components to continue progress on the project.

The Castell Avenue and Coll Street intersection will be closed through Jan. 31. The Castell Avenue and Jahn Street intersection will be closed through Jan. 13.

The intersection at Castell Avenue and Garden Street will be closed from Jan. 9-27. The Castell Avenue and Butcher Street intersection will be closed from Jan. 13-31.

NBU said vehicular traffic should expect barriers at the intersections and posted detour routes. All work is expected to be completed as scheduled, weather permitting.
