With all precincts in Comal and Hays counties reporting, preliminary results show Barron Casteel and Carrie Isaac will advance to a runoff election for the Republican primary for Texas House District 73.
Casteel came away with 45.63% of the votes while Carrie Isaac followed with 44.78% of the vote and George Green finished with 9.59% of the vote.
Voters in Hays County favored Isaac with 2,950 votes compared to 2,119 for Casteel and 550 for Green.
Casteel led in Comal County with 10,847 votes while Isaac received 9,775 and Green received 2,176.
The state will hold runoff elections May 24 featuring the top two vote-getters who fall short of the 50% threshold in their respective Democratic or GOP primary.
Election results are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified.

Barron Casteel has maintained his lead in the Republican primary race for the Texas House District 73 with all Comal County precincts reporting and 35 of 40 Hays County precincts reporting.
Casteel has remained ahead with 10,588 votes, or 47% of the votes, followed by Carrie Isaac with 9,981 votes and George Green with 2,048 votes.

With Comal and Hays Counties reporting results from early voting in the March 1 election, Barron Casteel is leading the Republican primary race for Texas House District 73.
The seat was left open after the recent redistricting process left incumbent state Rep. Kyle Biedermann, R-Fredericksburg, living outside the new district boundaries.
The Republican winner of the primary election for the seat will advance to the general election in November. Only one Democrat, Justin Calhoun, filed for a place on the ballot in the race and will also advance to the Nov. 8 general election.
As of 8:20 p.m., reports from Comal and Hays counties show Barron Casteel leading with 47.23% of the vote, or 7,723 votes. Carrie Isaac has 43.83%, or 7,166 votes, and George Green has 8.94%, or 1,462 votes.
No polling locations are reporting election day results.
Election results are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified.
