Beginning March 10 New Braunfels and the surrounding area entered Stage 1 drought restrictions due to a lack of sufficient rainfall.

The community had previously been in nondrought water status since Nov. 1, according to a press release from New Braunfels Utilities, but water levels in the Edwards Aquifer dropped to 660 feet on March 9, triggering the drought restrictions.

During these restrictions residents are required to follow a schedule for using sprinkler or irrigation systems based on their address.

The schedule is as follows:

Monday: addresses ending in 0 or 1

Tuesday: addresses ending in 2 or 3

Wednesday: addresses ending in 4 or 5

Thursday: addresses ending in 6 or 7

Friday: addresses ending in 8 or 9

The use of a sprinkler or irrigation system is not permitted on weekends, but the use of handheld hoses, soaker hoses or drip irrigation systems is allowed at any time during Stage 1.

Visit the NBU website for further information about watering stages.
