It was the largest single-day increase in cases so far. Two of the new patients are hospitalized in New Braunfels, which is also a first.
Previously, patients were sent to either Bexar or Travis counties for treatment, including the New Braunfels man who died on March 26.
“It’s clear from numbers like this that Comal County is still in the acceleration phase of this virus,” said Cheryl Fraser, the Comal County director of public health, in a press release. “It remains vitally important that all county residents follow the county’s Stay Home/Stay Safe order and limit their exposure to COVID-19.”
The Comal County Office of Public Health reported 269 tests have been sent to labs so far, with 55 still awaiting results.
Of the new Comal County cases, two are deemed travel related, and the public health office is still investigating the source of transmission for the other three.
The new cases are distributed throughout the county. They are in New Braunfels, near the Hays County line and south of Canyon Lake, and there is one in the center of the county.
There are now 14 cases in New Braunfels across both Comal and Guadalupe counties.
On April 6, Guadalupe County announced its largest single-day jump with 11 new cases, bringing its total to 39. One resident was hospitalized.
Three of the new patients were in the same household.
A press release from Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher stated that an increase in positive test results is expected as testing becomes more available.
