Douglas Architects will present an update on the city’s visioning plan for South Castell Avenue at a special City Council meeting, which will take place today, Sept. 17, at New Braunfels City Hall, 550 Landa St., at 5 p.m.

Late last year, Douglas Architects presented three concepts for what a 10-acre downtown mixed-use development could look like. At the time, the project was expected to add, on average, $1.6 million in annual tax revenue; create 301 jobs; and offer housing opportunities for 318 residents.

On Jan. 24, the city held its sixth and final public visioning meeting for the project. The public visioning meetings provided insight to the city on how the community feels the property will best be used.

At the Jan. 24 meeting, City Manager Robert Camareno stressed public engagement on the project would not stop after the public meetings. According to a city news release, “This citizen-led visioning process allows the city to share with the future developer what is important to the community, and the public is encouraged to attend the special City Council meeting for an update on the status of this ongoing process.”
