Because no candidate received 50 percent of votes on the Republican ballots for the Guadalupe County Commissioner Precincts 2 and 4 seats during the March 6 primary election, both races resulted in a runoff election.

Precinct 2: Drew Engelke will be unopposed on general election ballot


With all 34 polling places reporting, unofficial election results show Drew Engelke won the Republican election for the Guadalupe County Commissioner Precinct 2 seat.  Engelke had 703, or 56.38 percent of votes. His opponent, Randall K. Herzog, had 544 votes, or 43.62 percent.

Early voting results showed Engelke in the lead with 407, or 61.67 percent of votes. Herzog received 253, or 38.33 percent, of early votes.

During the primary election, Herzog led the race with 757, or 35.39 percent of votes. Engelke followed close behind with 742, or 34.69 percent of votes. Incumbent Ralph Jack Shanafelt was also in the running but only took 640 votes—or 29.92 percent.

There are no Democratic candidates running in the Nov. 6 general election to replace Shanafelt.

Precinct 4: Incumbent Judy Cope will face off against Rebecca Tucker in general election


With all votes counted, unofficial election results show incumbent Judy Cope in the lead for the Republican candidacy for the Guadalupe County Commissioner Precinct 4 seat. Cope received 706 votes—55.77 percent—while opponent Daniel Kearns ended the election with 560 votes, or 44.23 percent.

Early voting results showed Cope in the lead with 363 votes, or 56.37 percent. Kearns had 281 early votes, accounting for 43.63 percent.

Results from the primary election showed Cope in the lead with 1,075 votes, or 42.17 percent. Kearns followed with 873 votes, or 34.25 percent. A third candidate, T. “Jake” Jacobs, had 601 votes, or 23.58 percent.

During the Nov. 6 election, Cope will face off against Democratic candidate Rebecca “Becca” Tucker, who was uncontested in the primary election.
