The 25th annual Wassailfest event, hosted by the city of New Braunfels, will take place Dec. 7 from 6-9 p.m. in historic downtown New Braunfels. Mayor Barron Casteel will kick the evening off with a toast in Main Plaza.
A wassail is a hot drink made with wine, beer, or cider, spices, sugar and usually baked apples.

The local holiday tradition began in 1992. This year, there will be more than 30 free wassail stops for sampling, business open houses, food concessions, local choirs, musicians and puppeteers.

A judged Wassail-Meister Competition will declare an official winner of the best wassail, which will be announced from the Main Plaza Bandstand near the close of the festival and officially proclaimed at a January City Council meeting.
