Meteorologist Bob Rose with the Lower Colorado River Authority says local temperatures will see a dip this weekend, with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. Take advantage of the cooler weather with these events in Cedar Park and Leander.

April 21: Spring carnival at Laura W. Bush Elementary. Members of the public are invited to participate in games and activities. All proceeds go back to the school. April 21: Spring carnival at Winkley Elementary School. The school hosts an annual fundraiser open to the public. Guests can participate in various games and attractions. April 21: Movies in the Park in Cedar Park. The Cedar Park Parks and Recreation Department presents a free screening of “Finding Dory.” Guest are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy a movie under the stars. Concessions will not be available onsite, but people are welcome to bring food. County event: April 22: Chili Cook-off Honoring Veterans and First Responders. Williamson County Sheriff’s Office representatives will participate in the First Annual Chili Cook Off hosted by the Texas Capital 1919 Military Order of the Purple Heart. The event is scheduled for rain or shine and features live music. The chefs are military heroes and first responders. There will be approximately 20 chili teams competing. All proceeds go to the Military Order of the Purple Heart. April 22: Science Saturday: Earth Day. The Texas Museum of Science and Technology will celebrate Earth Day and the March for Science with Science Saturday activities, seed bombs, tiny terrariums and more to explore what the Earth does for humans and what humans can do for the earth. County event: April 22: Williamson County Family Fun Day. Families of all ages are invited to a free Family Fun Day filled with an afternoon of intergenerational activities. The event is an appreciation for older Americans and all they have done to enrich our communities. The public is invited to enjoy ice cream making, fishing demonstrations, face painting, handcrafts, photo booth, woodworking demonstrations, games, dancing and more. The Leander Parks and Recreation Department presents a screening of “Queen of Katwe,” a biopic of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi that traces her journey from the Kampala slum of Katwe to the upper echelons of the chess world after she develops an interest in the game at a youth-outreach program run by Robert Katende. There will music and games before the movie. Movies begin a dusk. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and food. Concessions also are available. Glass containers are not allowed.
