Leander ISD’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved a plan of action—which states the LISD Educational Excellence Foundation will become the only district education foundation and Viper Nation Education Foundation will become an academic booster club—at a meeting April 4. Trustee Grace Barber-Jordan was absent.

“As we walk through the process, I’m concerned of what happened to your foundations’ messaging or community in this process,” Trustee Trish Bode said, adding that she wants to know how the district could offer them support and accountability going forward. “We want to be able to support you in those processes.”

The decision comes after around a year of deliberation by both nonprofits, which announced this proposal March 27.

Under the approved plan of action, VNEF is planned to transition into a booster club for the Vandegrift High School feeder pattern by June 30 as LEEF becomes the sole education foundation.

However, if booster club guidelines are not determined by that date, VNEF could come before the school board again for an extension. VNEF representatives are slated to work with district administration and future multi-campus booster clubs to ensure funding equity, according to the plan of action.

The LISD board of trustees also unanimously approved the extension its memorandum of understanding with LEEF, an agreement which outlines the terms of the district’s relationship with the nonprofit through April 2022.
