Cedar Park and Leander both continue to add new residents, but Cedar Park boasts a wealthier, more educated population than its northern neighbor, according to 2015 data published by the American Community Survey Dec. 8.

Cedar Park has added 15,954 residents to its population in the past five years, from an estimated 44,887 residents in 2010 to 60,841 in 2015.

Leander added 8,756 residents during the same time period, from an estimated population of 23,295 in 2010 to 32,051 in 2015.

Statewide, 446,581 new residents were added to the population in 2015 compared to 2014. This number indicates smaller growth from the year before, but not by much. In 2014, Texas added 452,660 new residents.

But although the number of educated Texans continues to grow year over year, the level of education among Leander residents has decreased slightly.

The number of Texas residents achieving a high school diploma, an associate degree and a professional school education all saw growth. The percentage of Texans with a bachelor’s degree grew from 17.3 percent in 2010 to 18.2 percent in 2015.

Similar growth occurred in Cedar Park, where an estimated 29.9 percent of city’s population had a bachelor’s degree in 2010. In 2015, that number rose to 30.3 percent.

Although Leander boasts a higher percentage of residents with a bachelor’s degree than the state average, the rate decreased slightly over the past five years. In 2010, 22.6 percent of residents over 25 years old held a bachelor’s degree. In 2015, 22.5 percent had the same level of education.

According to 2015 data, most workers in Cedar Park—79.6 percent—are employed by private entities. About one-third of the working population makes $75,000 or more per year.

Men in Cedar Park earn significantly more than women, with the median annual salary for a full-time working man at $69,743 compared to his female peer, who earns $46,671 annually.

Most workers in Leander—77.9 percent—are also employed by private entities, but fewer than
20 percent of the working population older than age 16 makes $75,000 or more per year. The median annual household income in Leander in 2015 was $80,178.

Statewide, the median household income was $53,207 in 2015.
