Diners seeking a quick lunch, a laid-back dinner or space for a large gathering can find it at Cherry Creek Catfish Restaurant in Leander, owner Danny Lenertz said.
The Leander seafood restaurant celebrated its one-year anniversary in October, though the original South Austin location has been open for more than 20 years. Lenertz said he bought the original location in 2011.
Cherry Creek Catfish has a wide variety of choices for diners, including fried catfish baskets, chicken-fried steak dinners, barbecued pork ribs and grilled shrimp or chicken, he said.
“People assume it’s all catfish because catfish is in our name, but once they get here and see the menu, there’s a lot [to choose from],” Lenertz said.
Customer favorites include the blackened catfish dinner ($10.99) and the Cherry Creek Trio ($13.99), which features three catfish fillets, three jumbo shrimp, two pork ribs, french fries, coleslaw, green beans and hush puppies, he said.
“It’s just a laid-back atmosphere with good, homestyle comfort food,” Lenertz said.
Customers can enjoy a relaxed experience in the spacious dining room or stop in for a quick meal when time is limited, he said.
“That’s our goal—in and out—during lunchtime specifically,” Lenertz said. “We have specials that are designed for lunchtime that are really quick.”
Lunchtime specials include fried shrimp and catfish baskets served with french fries. The restaurant’s entire menu is also available for carryout orders. Carryout customers also have the option to order family packs, which include shrimp, catfish or ribs and side dishes to feed a family of four.
The Leander location also includes a banquet room that seats up to 100 people and can be reserved for meetings, parties and special events, Lenertz said.
On Oct. 1, the Greater Leander Chamber of Commerce gave Cherry Creek its Rookie of the Year business award. Chamber President Bridget Brandt said she recently hosted a chamber event in the banquet room.
“The convenience of being able to have a nice facility that people can go to with great food [and] a great wait staff and it be so simple—it’s a really nice bonus,” Brandt said.
