Firefly Aerospace, a Cedar Park-based company that produces small satellite launch vehicles, gave tours of its facilities Tuesday to industry professionals, members of the media and attendees of the South by Southwest Conference & Festivals.
“We wanted people in Austin to know there’s a rocket company in their backyard,” said Eric Salwan, the company’s director of commercial business development. “We’re close to going to space.”
The company brought guests to its test site in Briggs for a 40-second test of the upper stage of a rocket engine. Founder and CEO Thomas Markusic led the tours of the Cedar Park and Briggs facilities.
Firefly Aerospace can be found at Booth 405 of the SXSW Trade Show, according to the conference’s website. Chief Operating Officer Leo Sipich said the booth includes models of a rocket and engines.
