Doctor Samuel Morehead, owner of Leander Veterinary Clinic, said he aims to help people make the best decisions possible for their furry family members.

Morehead opened the clinic in February 2013, after practicing in the Austin area for about approximately 10 years. The veterinary hospital provides preventive care as well as treatment of medical issues.

Morehead said he takes pride in the caliber of dentistry his clinic offers as well as the personal service staffers provide to customers.

“It’s just me and my staff, though we do expect to grow some,” Morehead said. “One of our assets is that our clients know who we are, and we know who they are.”

Having a friendly and knowledgeable staff to provide a seamless experience for his clients and their pets is important to him, he said.

“This is the coolest thing I’ve ever done,” he said. “We have the best clients, and we get to meet new people every day.”

Morehead said he hopes his business will become the predominant clinic for all cat and dog owners in Leander. He said he aims to provide his clients with peace of mind knowing they will always have access to advice and care for their pets.

“The trick is to offer a personal level of care while still providing the highest-quality medicine and care possible,” he said. “We want our clients and their pets to have a good experience.”

Morehead said Leander is a growing, dynamic city and is an ideal location for him and his family. His wife, Emmy, said she enjoys getting to know the clients and their pets.

The Moreheads have three cats, two guinea pigs and three dogs of their own.

“Pets are part of the family, too,” he said. “Our job is to help people make the best choices possible for their pets. I love getting to be a part of that.”

Flea ferocity

This summer has been a battle against fleas for many pet owners, said Doctor Sam Morehead.

“We spend a lot of time educating our patients and helping people deal with [treating fleas],” Morehead said. “Many people won’t recognize fleas for what they are.”

Morehead speculates that the wet conditions have led to a spike in fleas this summer. Clients may come to the clinic for preventive flea treatment.
