As Texans we rally to help others. The heroic images we have seen during and after Hurricane Harvey are amazing. Not only did trained emergency crews and National Guard personnel come to residents’ rescue, but we also saw neighbors helping neighbors.

Experts say it will be the costliest natural disaster to hit the United States, but the catastrophic losses caused by Hurricane Harvey can’t be measured only in dollars.

The real toll is the effect it has on the people who are in the middle of it. We all likely have friends, relatives or co-workers affected by the storm.

It’s easy to say we are tough. Or Texas Strong. But the recovery from this tragic event will take years. And for those in the storm’s path, including the men and women who rushed in to save lives, the impact will last forever.

We salute the victims, first responders and businesses who are rebuilding much more than a house or a store. Our prayers are with you. In this issue we offer a small list of ways to help (see Page 18). The victims still need us, perhaps now more than ever.
