Bee caves road construction beginsWhat we reported

The Texas Department of Transportation is adding a center turn lane to a 3-mile stretch of Bee Caves Road from Redbud Trail to Walsh Tarlton Lane. Although funded by TxDOT, the project necessitated the city of West Lake Hills to purchase the right of way lining the roadway from area homeowners and local businesses.

The latest

Work on infrastructure for the $29 million project began Nov. 13. City staffers joined TxDOT leaders and local government officials in a Nov. 14 ground breaking marking the official beginning of the project that is set to be complete in summer 2019.

What’s next

Crews will continue with restriping the roadway, clearing the right of way area and relocating utility lines through January on Bee Caves Road. Various nightly lane closures will occur from 8 p.m.-6:30 a.m. from Redbud to Westlake Drive to allow for restriping work. Lane closures short in length are anticipated during daytime hours from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the roadway’s east and westbound right lanes to permit crews to install water lines. Saturday work will begin in January, and residents can expect lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekends.
