The first baby of the new year born at Lakeway’s campus of Baylor, Scott & White Health is a 7-pound, 2-ounce bundle of joy for parents Natalie and Frank Shuman of Southwest Austin.

The couple welcomed their new son, Luca, at 4:57 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, according to a release from the hospital.

“Luca means ‘light’, and this is definitely going to light up our new year,” Natalie said.

The baby was delivered by Dr. Matthew Romberg and measured 19.5 inches long. There to greet him were his 13-year-old sister and 3-year-old brother.

“This is a great way to ring in the new year,” Frank said. “We thought [the birth of baby Luca]may [have happened]before the weekend, and then possibly later into this week, but we definitely did not expect for it to happen this close to the new year.”
