Student enrollment numbers in Eanes ISD are not expected to change drastically next school year. Elementary school numbers are going slightly down, while middle and high school numbers are going marginally up.

The board of trustees discussed enrollment projections for the 2019-20 school year and the zones that would need adjustment as a result at the Feb 26 meeting.

To balance enrollments and make better use of available space, the projections were based on staff recommendation that planning zone 12C---north of West Lake Hills---be re-transitioned from Eanes Elementary School back to Bridge Point Elementary School as it was originally zoned prior to 2007, when the last significant adjustments to attendance boundaries were made.

At that time Bridge Point Elementary was at capacity, and Eanes Elementary was below, which lead to the adjustment, a staff report said, adding that over time the demographic growth has shifted conversely.

Students entering third through fifth grade and their siblings would be grandfathered at Eanes Elementary, and those entering kindergarten through second grade would attend Bridge Point Elementary next year. Based on projections, this would affect about 20 students entering kindergarten through second grade, a staff report said.

Full realization of the shifted enrollment would not be seen until the start of the 2022-23 school year, according to the report.

The district also provided enrollment projections up to the 2023-24 school year based upon the proposed 12C adjustment.

The topic was up for discussion only, and the information will be taken into account as the board begins reviewing the proposed 2019-20 budget, which will be up for approval in June.
