Segner’s Jewelers, a Fredericksburg-based family business with a second location at 12400 W. Hwy. 71, Ste. 708, Bee Cave, donated $9,803 to the Central Texas Food Bank as part of its year of giving campaign.

Collected from May 1-Aug. 31, the funds will help purchase 39,212 meals for the organization, Segner’s spokesperson Cerise Carter said.

To celebrate its 80th anniversary, Segner’s is donating 10 percent of all 2017 sales, excluding loose diamond sales, to area charities, she said. The charities selected focus on health and nutrition, an ode to Segner family member Allina Pokorny, who died from colon cancer last summer at age 28, Carter said.

“The campaign to raise funds for charities throughout our 80th year has been successful,” Segner’s President Sammy Segner said. “We want to thank all the customers who came into Segner’s to make purchases during these fundraising periods. We know that these donations will help many folks who don’t have access to proper nutrition and health care.”

The funds raised from Sept. 1 to the end of the year will be donated to The Seton Fund, which supports Austin-area Seton Heathcare Family facilities, and the Hill Country Memorial Hospital Foundation’s cancer resource center, Carter said.

The Segner’s location in Bee Cave also donated $5,285 to Volunteer Healthcare in the first phase of the campaign, which ran from Jan. 1 through April 30, she said.
