A Denver-based eating disorder clinic will open its third Texas facility in October in North Austin.
“We’re seeing even with our population growing there’s also a need for more psych care with eating disorders,” said Allison Chase, who will serve as executive director of the Eating Recovery Center of Austin.
The new center will be located on Renfert Way across from St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and serve the greater Austin area. Chase said the location will provide easy access to other medical expertise.
Chase said ERC of Austin’s staff members will work with a patient’s existing physicians and therapists.
“There will be a lot of collaboration and connection with the community,” she said. “We want to make sure the transition back to their care is really smooth and everybody has a role in it.”
The facility will serve patients age 10 and older and offer intensive outpatient services and a partial hospitalization program in which patients spend the day at the facility for meal support and therapy but return home to sleep.
Chase said ERC of Austin is still working on its programming, but it will cater to athletes.
“Austin is a wonderfully fit community, which is fantastic, but there is a recurring issue we see of those who use exercise not for healthful purposes,” Chase said.
